Challenge

The customer requested CFAST Environmental Services to provide a Flowback Spread for a 2 well campaign aboard the Noble Faye Kozak including Gunflint #2 Safety Valve change as well as Gunflint #4 Stimulation in June and July of 2022. The second project consisted of installing the completions of the Gunflint #1 Well in March and April of 2023, as well as the Katmai #2ST well from May to July of 2023.

The purpose of these projects was to salvage as much completion fluid as possible that met quality standards in weight and cleanliness, as well as the discharged fluid meeting NPDES standards along the way, in an effort to reduce the disposal and purchasing cost of the completion fluids being used. The CFAST Spread also provided the capability to clean and separate any oil at pipeline quality standard for re-sale value.

Action

CFAST ES worked internally to provide all pre-job documentation such as P&ID’s, deck layout drawings, area classification drawings, safety drawings, and electrical drawings all according to 14C compliance and BSEE approval.

The Centrifugal Separator and Fluids Filtration Package was sized, designed, and mobilized.

CFAST ES tied into 500 BBL tanks wells downstream of SLB Well Test Kit.

CFAST ES also provided 6 CFAST personnel to operate and monitor the system 24/7

Rig up time for the full CFAST spread was one 12-hour shift

Results

Results on Gunflint #2 Flowback: (Safety Valve Change Out)

Project Mobilized on 6/15/22 and finished on 7/11/22 (27 days) before moving to next well

CFAST system processed fluid from 6/20/22 to 7/8/22 (19 days)

CFAST system never received the required fluid weight, therefore the fluid was processed and filtered for overboard discharge.

Had power issues with VFD and centrifuge, this was due to using the drillship’s power supply. We provided our own generator for this on the next 3 wells and had no issues.

Processed and discharged 2,124 bbls of clean fluid overboard.

Estimated increase in revenue, based on $55/barrel, is $44,569,250.

Results

Results on Gunflint #4 Flowback: (Acid Stimulation)

Project Mobilized on 7/12/22 and demobed on 7/28/22 (17 days)

CFAST system processed fluid from 7/17/22 to 7/26/22 (10 days)

CFAST completed acid flowback and processing the completion fluid brine for the MC-948 Gunflint #4 Well

We were able to process and return 2,864 bbls of 10.8 ppg and higher brine back to the rig pits for re-use

Once the fluid weight became too low for re-use we processed and cleaned 1,438 bbls to be discharged overboard.

CFAST System was able to return 554 bbls of <1% BS&W Oil back to the customer

Results

Results on Gunflint #1 Flowback: (Completion Flowback)

Project Mobilized on 3/24/23 and demobed on 4/4/23 (12 days)

CFAST system processed fluid from 4/1/23 to 4/4/23 (4 days)

Our goal for this well was to recover as much 13.5 PPG brine as possible during the flowback for re-use.

CFAST system never received the required fluid weight, therefore the fluid was processed and filtered for overboard discharge.

Processed and discharged 2,083 bbls of clean fluid overboard.

Results

Results on Katmai #2 Flowback: (Completion Flowback)

Project Mobilized on 5/14/23 and demobed on 7/7/23. CFAST personnel and equipment were on location for 42 days during this time.
